Although they'd decided to tie the knot before William and Kate, royal protocol dictates that the couple - who were introduced by William - wait until after Kate and Wills' nuptials to announce their news.
‘Bea and Dave are closer than ever,' reveals a source.
‘They knew that William was proposing this year and would have first rights to arranging his wedding because he's second in line to the throne and Bea's only fifth.'
Beatrice, 22, has been dating 28-year-old David - who lives in a £5 million mansion in Hampstead, north London, and works for the Virgin Galactic space programme - for more than four years.
‘Bea's had quite a tough year,' reveals our mole.
‘But Dave's been there cheering her up and making her smile.
'They know they've got to wait before they can celebrate their engagement but they don't mind.
'They're not planning to marry until 2012, so there's plenty of time.'
