John Galliano debuted his ready to wear Spring/Summer 2011 show during Paris Fashion Week at Opera Comique on October 3, 2010 in Paris, France. For inspiration, John Galliano looked back to the 1920s and to woman by the name of Maria Lani.
During the 1920′s, Maria Lani persuaded almost every leading artist of the Parisian art scene to either paint, sculpt, or draw her under the pretext that their work would appear in a film she was starring in. When in reality, Maria was not an actress and there was not a film being made. Maria Lani was nothing more than a swindler who, once the art work in her hands, fled the country. Some of the artists she conned included: Henri Matisse, Chana Orloff, Jules Pascin, and Jean Cocteau.
